Well folks, after many, many months, today is the day my book, Must Love Trees: An Unconventional Guide, is published. You can buy it anywhere. Doesn’t matter where you’re getting it from—everywhere is great.
I want you all to know that I’m eternally grateful to everyone for your support—in feedback, in excitement, even in shade. I use that shade, you know.
I anticipate that this book will mostly have one of two reactions: 1. “I really wanted to learn about trees, and that was a weird book that didn’t teach me what I wanted. Do not recommend.” 2. “Well, that was fun! It seems like there’s a lot of different ways to think about nature. Recommend!”
Those are both valid. I think of this book the same way I do an audition: you’re going in like it’s a rehearsal and giving everyone your initial take and showing everyone a range of possibilities. Once you see what people respond to the most, you can pursue that avenue with far more focus. Whether that’s a focused book of comedic essays, or whether there’s pursuing the intersection of Judaism and trees in depth, or whether that’s a full-fledged fantasy novel populated with tree characters, I don’t know. But consider Must Love Trees my overture.
Anywho, below is the acknowledgements page. Free last minute reservations are still available for the book launch tonight at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles (where Tyler Gaca will be sharing from Gentle Chaos!). I hope to see you there. Thank you all for giving me the space to be myself and talk about these things that mean so very much to me.
Love,
Tobin
